Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that the area known as Wilderspool Wood was a 19th century landscaped area which had recently become overgrown, rather than an area of ancient woodland. It contained the site of Wilderspool House and one other tenement, both of which were likely to have originated in the 18th century. Archaeological remains pre-dating the post-medieval period in the general vicinity were notably confined to slightly higher and drier lands. It was concluded that the site had a low archaeological potential and that the landscape had little historical value. No further archaeological work was considered necessary. [Au(adp)] |
