Abstract: |
A small number of archaeological deposits and features were located during the watching brief. In the south of the site an Iron Age or Romano-British ditch was located, together with regularly spaced ridge and furrow, a post-medieval ditch and short length of undated gully. In the north of the site there was evidence of ground disturbance as a result of the construction and demolition of the former hospital, nonetheless two ditches were identified. Small quantities of Romano-British and post-medieval pottery were recovered from the site. Other finds were limited in quantity and comprised tile, ceramic building materials, bottle glass, clay tobacco pipe and a few pieces of metalwork. [Au] |
