Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed erection of a 3 storey building and 10 parking spaces. The site was located in an archaeological priority zone, as defined by the Local Planning Authority. The site was thought to have a low archaeological potential for in-situ remains of the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Iron Age, Saxon/early medieval, late medieval and post-medieval periods. The site was believed to have a low to moderate archaeological potential for the Bronze Age and a moderate archaeological potential for the Roman period. Past post-depositional impacts on the site were thought to have been localised, and severe in the areas of 9-11 Warham Road and widespread and severe in the area of Queens Hill. It was thought that archaeological deposits were likely to survive only in the garden areas at the rear of 9 to 11 Warham Road. The proposed development would therefore have a potentially severe but highly localised archaeological impact. [Au(adp)] |
