Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, comprising the excavation of 20 machine cut trenches, was undertaken prior to the proposed residential redevelopment of the site. The natural soil sequence appeared to have survived across the majority of the site with the exception of trenches 2 and 7 where truncation was observed due to landscaping associated with the hospital buildings and the former Broomhill House. Small quantities of prehistoric material were recovered from re-worked natural in four of the trenches, but were not associated with any features. Four shallow ditches were located, two of which were post-medieval and two undated and may have been traces of post-medieval land division. [Au(abr)] |
