Abstract: |
Archaeological investigation revealed activity from the Iron Age to the early medieval period. Continuity was demonstrated by the one feature common to all phases, the double ditched trackway or its predecessor, whilst Phase 2 saw the beginning of ditched enclosures appended to this routeway in the Late Iron Age, a process that developed further in the Romano-British period (Phase 3) when it was thought that the trackway was defined by side ditches. Post-Roman settlement (Phase 5) was represented by a palisaded enclosure and a number of other features to the east of the trackway. Post-medieval features included three dew ponds and two lines of post holes which related to temporary land divisions (Phase 6) [Au(adp)] |
