Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief during excavation of a gas pipeline was carried out. The work was a condition of Scheduled Monument Consent and was commissioned by British Gas. The route of the pipeline ran to within 80 metres of a probable Highworth Circle (Wilts SMR 604) an enclosure thought to date from the Bronze Age. No significant archaeological activity was recorded within the pipe trench. A single medieval pottery sherd and several post medieval sherds were uncovered, all thought to be residual in nature.
