Abstract: |
The principal purpose of the evaluation within an area of land at the southern edge of the Mount Batten Scheduled Ancient Monument at Stamford Hill, was to provide evidence on the archaeological content of an area considered likely to contain elements of the Stamford Hill Late Iron Age cemetery, first discovered in 1863. No evidence for any extension of the prehistoric cemetery into the present study area was encountered. Whilst it was considered unlikely that major concentrations of graves could be present, it was acknowledged that individual isolated burials might still be found in this (and other) areas beyond the main cemetery area.
