Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which lay c. 20m to the east of a small park which had once formed the north-east corner of High Wycombe churchyard. A medieval pit had been found during earlier archaeological work at 41-43 Castle Street. During the evaluation, the foundations of a small 18th century brick and tile structure were recorded. A small pit containing the bones of an animal, possibly a cat, as well as rubbish, brick and tile, was observed, whilst a medieval pit containing tile, bone and four sherds of 13th-14th century pottery was also found. No evidence of human burial was revealed, and it was concluded that the burial ground had not extended this far to the east. [AIP] |
