Abstract: |
<summary>Desk-based assessment was undertaken on the site of a proposed sports centre. There are no known archaeological finds from within the development area or in the immediate vicinity. However, existing palaeoenvironmental evidence from Bidston Moss shows that it lay at the heart of an area that was one of the most attractive in the county for settlement for the earliest communities (from c5,000 years ago, possibly earlier). The development site was part of the moss and still retains a reasonable depth of peat (c0.8m) under 2.5m of modern tipping. Therefore the occurrence of archaeological material within the peat layers is possible, but extremely difficult to predict. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
