Abstract: |
Two trial trenches were excavated in the open garden area to the rear of the main building, after a limited programme of documentary research. These exposed a substantial stone wall, orientated north-south, and mortar representing the demolition of the wall in advance of development of the surrounding area. The wall was probably part of the claustral area of the Friary which lay to the south of the Friary church, remains of which had been found immediately to the north of the present site. The recommendation resulting from the evaluation was that the site should be fully investigated prior to any development. [Au(abr)] |
