Abstract: |
The investigation recorded remains of 18th to 20th century occupation and dumping within the area of development, to a maximum depth of 2.1 metres. A wall of possible 18th century date was exposed, though this was at too great a depth to investigate further. The recorded sequence suggested that earlier remains, if present, were buried to a substantial depth within the area of development. Finds recovered during excavations included fragments of animal bone, oyster shells and pieces of pottery dating from the 17th to 20th centuries. These were incorporated within a sequence of dumping and most likely represented reclamation or ground making close to the River Welland. [Au] |
