Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks at the site of a new garden and play area which overlay an area once occupied by Poulton Hall, a building which was demolished in 1932. The design specifications had been intended to minimise the damage to any features or deposits of archaeological interest; observations confirmed that limited disturbance would be caused in the areas monitored. Garden-type soils were recorded, together with former surfaces of post-medieval date. It was concluded that, given the limited excavation, the monitoring exercise could add little to the understanding of Poulton Hall and its immediate environs. [Au(abr)] |
