Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site. A Roman pavement had previously been excavated at the site, and a medieval priory had lain nearby. During the evaluation, two Roman building phases were identified. Ground-raising dumps and a 3rd century drainage channel were also recorded. A wooden comb was recovered from a medieval pit, and a post-medieval pit contained fragments of tile. A mid-18th century brick-lined cellar or cess-pit was noted. It was concluded that a limited watching brief should be undertaken. [AIP] |
