Abstract: |
An excavation and monitoring was carried out to the north-west of the hall immediately beyond the outer bailey. A 13th century pit, a ditch and structural features were identified that predated the moat. The inner moat was identified as being created in the late 13th or early 14th century. A large 16th century cesspit was identified. Over the cess pit, a late 16th century brick structure was identified. The structure may have been part of the east wing of the 16th century hall.
