Abstract: |
The evaluation demonstrated the presence of a concentration of features in the southern part of the site, dating from the Roman to post-medieval periods. This reflected the topography, as the land rises gently in that direction. The density of the features also increased to the south and south-east. The majority of the features were Roman, with a significant number of early-mid Saxon features. Furthermore, two of the Roman features - a pond feature and a possible trackway contained a dark fill in which Romano-British and early-mid Saxon pottery was found. The presence of stratified early-mid Saxon pottery at this site mirrored the identification of similar sherds found to the east (possibly from excavations at the villa).[Au(abr)] |
