Abstract: Recording of several buildings, constructed between 1938 and 1941 at Rochford Hospital, was undertaken. Daly's House, the Training Unit and the Admissions Block were steel-framed and reinforced concrete structures, with flat roofs and brick screen walls. The Matron's House was a more typically suburban detached house, with hipped roof and grey pebbledash exterior. Very few later modifications had been made, and the majority of the internal fixtures and fittings remained. Of particular interest were the various light fittings, the wooden electric fire surrounds and the design of the bedrooms. Daly's House had many features reminiscent of the International Style of architecture, and was typical of municipal architecture of the 1930s. [Au(adp)]
