Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was carried out during preparatory work, including the excavation of engineering test-pits, in an area proposed for flood alleviation works. A number of archaeological sites had been recorded in the area, including cropmarks, a Roman burial, an 11th century abbey and a post-medieval tannery. During the monitoring exercise, no significant archaeological remains were observed, although a struck flint was recovered. It was concluded that the flood alleviation scheme would provide a valuable opportunity to record the stratigraphy along a stretch of the River Ouse. [AIP] |
