Abstract: |
During the course of the assessment some indications of prehistoric and Roman activity were identified within a 1km radius of the study area, but it was considered unlikely that such remains would be encountered on the site itself. The Medway Union Workhouse was built in 1858-9, which consisted of an entrance block, receiving wards and accommodation blocks. A new infirmary block was added in 1884 and a nurses home was also built on the study area by the 1930s. In 1929 the workhouse passed into the hands of the County Council, at which time it became known as the Medway Hospital.[Au(abr)] |
