Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of the Epsom Area was undertaken prior to the formulation of proposals for improvements to the local transport system. It was found that the study area incorporated several Areas of Archaeological Importance, and that a large number of archaeological sites had been recorded within it. Sites included prehistoric, Roman and medieval findspots and Saxon burials. The historic centres of Ewell and Epsom were considered to be particularly sensitive. It was concluded that a more detailed assessment of the area would be necessary once road options had been identified. [AIP] |
