Abstract: |
A desk based study and evaluatory survey of several buildings which had been proposed for refurbishment was undertaken. Roman artefacts had been found within geotechnical test-pits at the site, which lay within the area of Roman Bath. Leasehold and cartographic information relating to the site implied that the most likely date for the formation of the properties in their present configuration was the second half of the 17th century. Damaged remnants of late 17th and 18th century structures were observed within one property, the Christopher Hotel, during a site visit. It was concluded that the historic material warranted further work; in view of its condition, recording was deemed to be more appropriate than preservation in situ. [Au(adp)] |
