A Phase 1 Survey starting with a desk-top study of a 1 kilometre wide corridor centred on the proposed road line of the A435 Studley Bypass was to be undertaken by the Field Archaeology Section of Warwickshire Museum. The County Archaeological Service of Hereford & Worcester County Council was asked to contribute to this assessment by providing information on that part of the corridor within the present County of Hereford & Worcester. Thirty sites of archaeological interest were identified; these included undated crop marks (HWCM 222, 736, 738) and earthworks (HWCM 6113, 9757- 9758, 10215), as well as sites datable to the Neolithic (HWCM 11, ?44, 9753), Bronze Age (HWCM ?44, 771), Roman (HWCM 886), medieval (HWCM 48, 94, 221, 762-764, 9756, 20640, 20650-20653, 20688-20689)\nand post-medieval periods (HWCM 48, 10220-10221, 10240, 20639). , 20639). |
