Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of an extension to a quarry. A previous desk top assessment had identified the presence of a possible barrow at the site. A Neolithic chambered tomb and a Bronze Age round barrow lay in the surrounding area, and prehistoric artefacts had been found. The site and its immediate vicinity had formed part of the landholdings of two medieval monastic houses. During the evaluation, a modern quarry pit was found, but no deposits or features of archaeological interest were revealed. It was concluded that the proposed extension was unlikely to affect an area of archaeological importance. [AIP] |
