Abstract: |
Three trial trenches were excavated as an evaluation in advance of the construction of a new swimming pool. The evaluation did not recover evidence for any significant archaeological remains. The proposed development area did not appeared to have been previously built upon, and generally had a low number of isolated finds within it. There was no evidence to suggest the date at which this open space was incorporated within the town following the construction of the adjoining earthwork; the evaluation produced no evidence to date the construction of the earthworks or to suggest why they were built; no evidence was recovered for features associated with the possible medieval road that was thought to have crossed the park, just to the north of the evaluation area.
