Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of an equestrian arena, at a farm which was recorded as a moated site in the County SMR. Manor Farm itself consisted of a farmhouse and a range of buildings of mid-19th century date which were Grade II Listed. Three of the four evaluation trenches excavated were positioned to investigate the possible position of the former moat, suggested by early maps. A 19th century land drain of mortared stones was recorded, and two sherds of medieval pottery were recovered. Other finds consisted of post-medieval roof tile, occasional iron and lumps of mortar. No evidence of a previous water-filled feature was revealed. [AIP] |
