Abstract: |
<summary>A preliminary evaluation comprising fieldwalking, auger and geophysical surveys, of the proposed route of a gas pipeline from Horndon, Essex to Barking in Greater London, was undertaken. Auger and fieldwalking surveys identified four areas of archaeological potential along the route: peat deposits in the Thames marshes of archaeo-environmental interest, and small concentrations of artefacts to the south of Spring Farm, to the west of Warwick Lane, and to the north of Warwick Wood. The geophysical survey identified very few anomalies of archaeological interest, although a few anomalies did coincide with two of the fieldwalking artefact concentrations.
