Abstract: |
The excavation of a large trench through a palaeochannel that traversed the site along the eastern boundary was recorded. The second phase of works comprised an evaluation of six trenches that developed into a full excavation. Numerous features were located cutting into the natural geology of probably 19th century date and thought to be contemporary with a school house located to the west of the site. In several trenches, and during the excavation, walls from these structures were located as well as two brick lined features. One of these was a small icehouse whilst the other was a soakaway. One of the rubbish pits contained pieces of post-medieval red earthenware industrial beakers. Sealing these features and the 19th century layers was modern made ground and/or the concrete slab.
