Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained at the church during site investigations related to structural movement inside the church. A number of late 18th/19th century wooden and lead coffin burials were discovered beneath the floor of the crypt together with large quantities of charnel arranged in groups along the external northern wall. A possible occupation layer containing Roman pottery and tile was identified adjacent to the north wall of the church, perhaps associated with settlement alongside the probable line of Roman Watling Street that ran through the site.
