Abstract: |
A reconnaissance survey was carried out across a large part of the Trent Valley in Derbyshire, from Newton Solney in the west to the Trent-Derwent confluence at Shardlow. It included 13 parishes in full, together with the northern half of four others which lay partly within the National Forest. Two previous surveys had covered the majority of South Derbyshire District; the current survey completed the coverage of the district. Twenty-one new records were created, with settlement and field-system earthworks predominating. Hollow-ways and terraced trackways were also well-represented, whilst park features, and industrial features such as dams, quarries and leats, were also noted. The relative frequencies of site types were similar to those recorded by surveys of Nottinghamshire. [Au(adp)] |
