Abstract: |
An evaluation revealed a number of features within the site which were not Roman, although there were a number which could be dated. These may have been Roman, although the lack in artefactual evidence and their location suggested that they may have been later in date. Within area two, what was probably the wall ditch was found. No other remains dating to the Roman period were identified. The majority of the other features and deposits were more recent in date and probably immediately predated the farmstead. The majority of the features evaluated in area three between the wall and the vallum appeared to be Roman in date and may have been related to the later phases of occupation of the civilian settlement at Burgh-by-Sands rather than directly with the defences. Finds included pottery and glass. [Au(adp)] |
