Abstract: |
The excavation located and recorded the two buildings shown in East Close on the 1682 survey. These consisted of a substantial farmhouse and attached byre or barn, both of which appeared to have been built around 1600. Evidence in the form of post holes and cut features elsewhere on the site indicated that these buildings were laid out after a period of abandonment following an earlier phase of medieval settlement on the site. However, the medieval features were limited and the precise nature of this earlier occupation remained unclear.[Au(abr)] |
