Abstract: |
A single 12m by 12m trench was excavated and recorded immediately adjacent to the proposed site of the new dwelling in order to assess the potential survival of deposits, features and structures associated with the former priory. No deposits or structures associated with the former priory were identified and although no finds were retained it was noted that apparently modern build-ups or dumps lay directly on top of naturally deposited layers. One feature was positively identified and another possibly identified but both appeared to be relatively modern. In the base of the trench naturally occurring deposits of silt, wind blown sand, and peat were encountered which may have been of interest for environmental studies of the area but they were of sufficient depth not to be disturbed by the proposed development. The trench contained little of archaeological significance. [Au(abr)] |
