Abstract: |
As a condition of the grant of a faculty by the Diocese of St Albans, for path alterations in the churchyard, the Heritage Network was commissioned to carry out archaeological monitoring of the groundworks. The work demonstrated that the top and subsoil had been frequently disturbed over time, as would be expected in a graveyard, and a quantity of disarticulated human bone was collected for reburial. A cobbled surface, representing an earlier phase of the path was observed, and a number of broken grave markers were recorded in the sections. One possible grave cut, and an in situ burial were recorded, both of which would be preserved beneath the new surface. [Au(abr)] |
