Abstract: |
Wallace's Field lay 800m WSW of the Stanway burial enclosures, where excavations in 1988-96 had revealed rich Late Iron Age and early Roman burials. A watching brief was maintained during topsoil stripping prior to mineral extraction. A number of prehistoric flints and Roman potsherds, and a single prehistoric potsherd, were recorded in unstratified positions. Five charcoal filled features lying directly beneath the topsoil were also recorded. They were undated, but it was very likely that they were created by the recent burning and removal of trees.
