Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during works for the replacement of steps and retaining wall on a site in proximity to Saxon and medieval waterfronts. The excavation revealed a riverfront wall dating to the second half of the18th century, which retained associated reclamation dumps on its landward side. On the other side of the wall were further land reclamation dumps, presumably deposited during the construction of the Victoria Embankment in the 1860s. [Au(abr)] |
