Abstract: |
Deposits were recorded in all four trenches that may represent dry land surfaces deposited within the Late Iron Age/early Roman period and may have been part of the Horselydown eyot. Features and dating evidence provided evidence of activity in the area from the Roman period and possibly the pre-Roman period. Trenches 1 and 2 also provided information of post-medieval occupation on the site. In Trench 1, the cellars and foundations of several terraced buildings were recorded. In Trench 2, a large deposit of sandy, clayey silt was recorded that represents post-medieval open land or market garden activity on the site. This deposit was truncated by a series of structures that represented early to mid 19th century warehousing or industrial activity. [Au(abr)] |
