Abstract: |
The assessment site lay close to the location of spot finds and sites dating to the prehistoric and Roman periods. The Domesday Book referred to a mill in Chipping, which it had been postulated may have stood on the site. No further documentary evidence was found to confirm this. A water mill had stood on this site, at various stages of development, from at least 1552 until 1882. Other remains of the series of mills may have survived below the surface. [Au] |
