Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed redevelopment of the property, which would have included a basement over its entire area. Consultation of maps and archaeological reports for sites in the immediate vicinity, together with other historical data, indicated little potential for archaeology of other than local significance. The site lay on open ground until the later 17th century and, though the general area became increasingly urban from that time onwards, parts of the site may not have been built on until this century. Archaeology associated with the later 17th century development of the north side of Worship Street may have survived at the southern end of the site. [Au(abr)] |
