Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the demolition of an existing house and its replacement with a new house. The archaeological potential of the study site for significant in situ finds of all past periods of human activity was thought to be low. Evidence of relatively recent horticultural activity and quarrying may be present. Residual finds of prehistoric or Roman date, eroded from the higher ground to the north east may be present. The site had been subject to very significant post depositional impacts. On the basis of the available evidence it was suggested that a programme of archaeological monitoring, observation and recording (watching brief) during construction groundworks would form an appropriate archaeological mitigation strategy.
