Abstract: |
The investigations have provided clear evidence for the preservation within the development site of a substantial ditch which possibly represented a moated house of medieval date. The ditch was square in plan with well defined corners and broadly corresponded with the present boundaries of the site. No firm evidence was found for a medieval building within the interior of the ditch. However, several fragments of medieval roof tiles dating to the 14th/15th century were recovered from the ditch and from a post-hole. The structural remains overlying the ditch were found to be related to the stable block or coach house and pottery evidence suggested an 18th century date for their construction. [Au(adp)] |
