Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken on an area of land that lay in close proximity to the medieval town wall, a scheduled ancient monument. The implications of the close proximity of the wall to the development site were investigated. The ditch associated with the town wall was located which was a major discovery as there had only been one previous opportunity to excavate the wall ditch, at Bath Lane. It was recommended that an archaeological field evaluation be undertaken to ensure the ditch was properly excavated and recorded and that any other earlier remains be recorded also. [AIP] |
