Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of footings for four adjoined dwellings. The watching brief was imposed because the site lay close to the medieval core of the village which was represented by St. Andrew's church, the base of a cross and ridge and furrow earthworks of the former medieval field pattern. Additionally, a Saxon spindle whorl was known from the village. The investigation identified an undated pit and boundary ditch. Pottery sherds and a clay pipe fragment, all dating to the 19th century, were retrieved during the watching brief. [Au(abr)] |
