Abstract:
Recording and excavation of archaeological deposits were carried out during the underpinning of the Victorian chancel of a medieval church. The medieval foundations of the east nave buttresses were recorded, and wall foundations were revealed which probably related to an earlier 12th century chancel. A post-medieval brick vault with one coffin and one skeleton, which pre-dated the present Victorian chancel, was found. Further medieval and post-medieval burials and several sherds of Saxon pottery were also recorded. [Au(adp)]
