Abstract: |
The site was proposed for redevelopment with new build on 31 Seward Street only. The site was thought to have a generally low archaeological potential. In particular, on the basis of all available evidence the site is not considered likely to contain remains relating to a documented medieval windmill, post-medieval chapel, post-medieval windmill, London's Civil War defences or to a plague pit of 1665. The site was likely to contain late medieval dumped midden deposits in backfilled late medieval brickearth quarries. The survival of archaeological deposits on the site was thought to have been significantly compromised by the cumulative impact of past land use, previous and existing developments. The proposed development was likely to have a significant impact on any surviving archaeological deposits only through the use of piled foundations. A proposed lower ground floor was unlikely to penetrate to significant archaeological levels. [Au(adp)] |
