Abstract: |
Test-pitting was undertaken to evaluate two areas of the proposed Western Approach Route Corridor for the proposed possible visitor centre site at Larkhill. Within Fargo Plantation two significant clusters of artefacts and two prehistoric ditches producing artefacts of mid-2nd millenium BC date were revealed and significant quantities of animal bone recovered. At Durrington Down Farm, fewer and a narrower range of artefacts were found, and notable quantities of modern, including military debris was noted. Concentrations of burnt flint reflecting both tillage processes and downward movement of material were noted. Concentrations of burnt flint were also observed close to the sites of round barrows.
