Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed truncated sands and gravels of the First River Terrace on the south side of the site and brickearth on the north side. The natural deposits were cut by a number of post-medieval features, including an 18th-century ditch aligned at right-angles to the High Street. Of particular interest were the remains of a large brick building on the east side of the site, identified on 19th century maps as a malthouse. Brick walls abutting the malthouse were dated to the 19th century, as was a brick-lined soakaway. [Au] |
