Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site prior to the determination of planning permission for the construction of a basement car park. The site was shown to have a moderate potential for finds of prehistoric periods, in particular the Bronze Age. The archaeological potential of the site for all other periods of human activity was thought to be low. Archaeological deposits across the site were now only likely to have survived intact in the areas between the existing buildings. The report recommended that a programme of geotechnical boreholes and test pitting should be implemented. These should be archaeologically monitored to determine the presence or absence of potential archaeological horizons. Should such deposits be present, a programme of archaeological evaluation may be required. [Au(adp)] |
