Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of a proposed residential development site which lay near the historic core of Dorking was undertaken. Trial excavations at the site in 1976 had revealed a Roman ditch, two medieval pits and a medieval soakaway. Post-medieval remains included brick and cobble floors. Subterranean caves also existed at the site. It was noted that the majority of the proposed groundworks would occur at a level above that at which archaeological deposits were likely to be present. It was concluded that a watching brief should be carried out. [AIP] |
