Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation comprising a programme of trial trenching was undertaken. Archaeological evidence from most periods had been found close to the site and previous geophysical survey had identified possible ditches and pits. A prehistoric cremation burial and several worked flint flakes were identified, but the overall lack of prehistoric features, suggested transient activity. Saxon features suggested activity had been located further to the north, during this period. Medieval ditches, pits and post-holes suggested occupation from the 12th-14th century, which appeared to have declined post-14th century being used mainly for agricultural usage during post-medieval/later periods. The 18th-19th century and modern evidence could probably be related to cartographic evidence. Some paleoenvironmental material had survived through charring and most archaeological remains had been reasonably well preserved. [Au(adp)]
