Abstract: |
Evaluation in advance of redevelopment revealed layers of silt deposited by 14th century river flooding. Medieval occupation on these silts, comprising walls, ditches, pits and laid surfaces, was found associated with artefacts suggestive of high status habitation of probable domestic character. Evidence of high-temperature industrial activity was found in the north-eastern part of the site.More substantial post-medieval flood deposits and structural remains associated with the construction of the hospital in 1874 were located.
