Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the proposed development of land to the east of Westergate Community College. Eight features were recorded, all were shallow and with the exception of one, all contained artefacts of medieval or later date. One trench revealed an east-west ditch which produced exclusively prehistoric artefacts such as fire-cracked flint, the broken tip of a flint tool and very abraded fragments of pottery. A test pit revealed evidence for terrestrial deposits overlying marine sands. The deposition of the marine sands was thought to have taken place 190,000 years BP. [Au(abr)] |
